I am a sucker for paranormal and horror movies, so as soon as a new thriller comes out I have to see it, regardless of the reviews. However, it has been a while since I last experienced a paranormal movie that impressed me, so I hoped The Last Exorcism Part II would do the job.
I had recently watched The Last Exorcism and found that, although the plot was clever and interesting, it was very slow paced and not as great as I had expected. Putting this aside, I still had high hopes for The Last Exorcism Part 11.
This is a 'quick review', and it contains no spoilers, so if you haven't seen the movie yet and are planning to, feel free to continue reading.
I went to see The Last Exorcism Part II last night, and overall, I must say I enjoyed the movie. The cinematic experience made the movie more thrilling, and the parts that were make you jump actually did make you jump, though I don't know if that would be the case if I was watching in the comfort of a house. The plot again was good, and quite easy to follow without being too obvious and revealing itself, and was intriguing by presenting a few red herrings. The effects on the movie weren't over the top, which made the movie more realistic and believable.
Even with all these good points, I still found the movie...lacking. Yet again I found the movie rather slow paced, and the paranormal parts of the movie weren't quite paranormal enough for me. I was looking for something that would thrill me and scare me and keep me on the edge of my seat. The Last Exorcism Part II didn't do this for me. Although the first and the second movies weren't actually similar themselves with their plot lines, I found the feelings I had about the movie were the same: I was rather disappointed. I liked the movie, but it wasn't as good as I was hoping.
Overall, I found the movie's plot good, but they could have portrayed the movie in a much better way. If you like the softer, less frightening paranormal movie, then this is the movie for you. However, if like me, you prefer the sort of movie that could keep you awake at night, you might find this movie unsatisfactory.
